Payment Methods

Understandably, paying for medical procedures can be a daunting prospect; whether it is the amounts involved, dealing with private insurance companies, or simply an unfamiliarity with the process involved.

At the Ottawa Abortion Clinic, we endeavor to simplify the process as much as possible, arming you with the information you need so that you can focus on what is most important — your health.

OHIP Patients

The medical and surgical abortion services that we offer at our clinic are fully covered under the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP), for those who have a valid OHIP card.

Just show your valid OHIP card, with your pertinent details, to reception on the day of your appointment, and you are good to go.

We do offer some optional services that are not covered by OHIP, such as copper IUDs for those above the age of 25, but these services are not obligatory, nor do they limit your access to our medical or surgical abortion services.

NON-OHIP Patients

Private Insurance: Preferred Partners

At the Ottawa Abortion Clinic we have established relationships with many 3rd party insurance providers, to make the process as easy as possible for those who have health insurance provided through one of our preferred partners.

The process is simple — you book your appointment, show us your insurance card or policy ID, and receive the abortion care that you need. We will bill your insurance provider directly with no upfront payment by you.

Our Preferred Partners at the Ottawa Abortion Clinic are:

  • Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) Blue Cross
  • GuardMe
  • MorCare
  • Securian
  • Cowan

Private Insurance

Review your insurance policy

Ensure that your health insurance provider will pay for the abortion care services by checking your policy terms and conditions.

Check your policy’s terms and conditions for the following:

  • to see if they cover abortion care services
  • if there are any exclusions, things that they do not cover, that might apply
  • if there are specific claim procedures you'll need to follow
  • how long you have to submit your claim
  • whether or not there is a deductible — the amount of money that you must pay before your insurance policy starts paying for covered expenses

Making a Claim

Submit your claim as soon as possible, as most insurance providers have time limits within which you must submit your claim.

Most insurance providers will allow submitting claims online. Simply log in and fill out a claim form, by confirming the details of your policy (name, policy/certificate number, etc.), your claim type and the details of your claim, selecting a payment option (direct deposit, cheque, etc.), and uploading any documentation they may require (official receipt, any credit card/debit slips, etc.).

Alternatively you can contact your insurance agent/broker directly and provide all the relevant information and supporting documents required.

Credit Cards, e-Transfers, and Cash

For those who do not have insurance, or do not wish to use their insurance, we also accept credit cards, e-transfers, and cash.
